Top Truck Stops In The UK

The humble roadside truck stop is as much an iconic symbol of lorry driving as the ‘Steadie’ Eddie Stobart HGV’s that chug up and down the UK’s A roads, B roads, motorways and country lanes.

Although it seems that service stations, with their fast food chains, unimaginative designs and ‘sub-standard’ food are a driver’s first choice for a quick pit stop, there are still some hidden gems tucked away at the roadside that offer that special something to the long-distance lorry driver that your standard motorway services just cannot deliver.

So here are the top five truck stops no driver can afford to miss.

Bolster Moor Farm Shop

Where? Golcar, Huddersfield – M62 J23
Why? Home of Britain’s best bacon butty!

Just three miles off Junction 23 of the M62 in the Rugby League town of Huddersfield, Bolster Moor Farm Shop is a Yorkshire institution for any hungry driver passing through that side of the Pennines.

With their homemade fare, northern friendly welcoming, not to mention their award winning pies, ‘Yorkshire’s Best Cafe’ is as quintessentially of its county as Fred Trueman wearing a white rose.

And if that isn’t enough to tempt you, the title of Britain’s Best Bacon Butty definitely will.

Route 74 Truckstoprestaurant

Where? Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire – M74 J10
Why? Britain’s number one truck stop!

Now as we know, the quality of truck stops varies throughout the UK (we’ve heard all the horror stories), but very rarely does a new truck stop come along and earn the title of Britain’s Truck Stop of the Year so quickly.

Facilities include a well-stocked shop, car and truck wash, showers and fuel bunkering, all of which operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There’s also a fantastic American-style diner serving hot and cold food every day at extremely reasonable prices.

Chippenham Pit Stop

Where? Chippenham, M4 J17
Why? On site barber shop!

This family-run truck stop is one of the best the West Country has to offer. As well as all the facilities you’d expect (excellent food, spotless toilets and showers, 24/7 fuel station) Chippenham Pit Stop also has a few more unusual offerings, including a barber shop! There’s even Driver CPC courses run here.

What’s more, if you’re a frequent driver in this area, their Pit Stop Privilege card is a must-have. Earn points on every purchase, which add up to vouchers for the shop and restaurant, plus get great discounts in the shop as standard.

New Hollies Truck Stop & Cafeaccomodation

Where? West Midlands, M6 J12
Why? Bargain accommodation!

Allegedly the oldest truck stop in Great Britain, the New Hollies Truck Stop is a great place to stop in the heart of England. Coming highly recommended by drivers themselves, you can be sure of top notch food and a comfortable place to relax after a long day.

Plus, to get a break from your bunk you can get a night in their on site accommodation from as little as £30, which includes full cooked breakfast. So why not make a night of it – there’s even a fully licensed bar to really help you unwind!

Ashford Truck Stop

Where? Kent, M20 J10
Why? On site gym!

A must-stop for any driver heading to or from Europe, Ashford Truck Stop is a convenient location for both Folkstone and Dover ports. This is a truck stop which really cares about its customers, and following their feedback, have made a number of changes that really set it aside from other truck stops.

Long-haul journeys can be tough on the health of a driver, so Ashford Truck Stop have not only added some nutritious (and delicious) options to their menu, but even built an on-site gym, which you can become a member of for less than a tenner for the whole year!

Which is your favourite truck stop in the UK? Let us know in the comments below!

InAutomotive Attract Record Amount of Jobseekers To The Site in March

So, you saw us record a jaw dropping amount of applications in February. Well, the figures are in for March and they’re just as impressive. This applies both to traffic AND applications!

Since we’ve gone mobile with InAutomotive, applications have been flooding in, here’s a breakdown by year of how we’ve performed in 2015 compared to previous years:

  • 2013 – 19,260 applications
  • 2014 – 15,756 applications
  • 2015 – 30,193 applications

That’s a massive increase of almost 100% YOY.

Taking a look at traffic, the figures are just as impressive. Since 2013 we’ve grown by almost 55%.

  • 2013 – 119,219 visits
  • 2014 – 148,260 visits
  • 2015 – 182,539 visits

You may ask yourself why this is the case?!

  1. Economic growth. The automotive industry is still growing in the UK which is great news. We’re listing more and more roles across various different sectors in the automotive industry with candidates flocking to these roles like they’re going out of fashion.
  2. Growth at InAutomotive. Internally we’ve restructured in a way that allows us to interact with employers/ agencies as well as candidates on a much more personal level. We’ve also had a full overhaul of our emails in the last couple of months so our audience is a lot more engaged/ targetted. This has helped increased traffic dramatically.

Apply By Selfie on InAutomotive

Selfie

ˈsɛlfi/

noun: informal

noun: selfie; plural noun: selfies; noun: selfy

Definition: a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.

“occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary”

It was 2013’s word of the year. Where have you been? Well we’ve been working. Our new mobile site has been a huge success, and it got us thinking of other ways we could integrate mobile technology to further improve our user experience. And now, after hours of work we think we’ve got it. Apply by Selfie.

Selfies aren’t just for tweens any more. Obama did one, Cameron did one, every famous and influential person you know has done one. you can tell a lot about a person from their Selfie, and no, this isn’t going to replace your C.V. and cover letter, but it’s a way you can stand out from the crowd and perhaps get your name noticed ahead of those other, selfie-less applications.

24-absolute-best-selfies-of-all

Here are 4 reasons you should apply by selfie:

All the gear, no idea?

Actually, having the necessary equipment can be a real benefit for some job roles. Applying for engineer jobs? Take a picture with holding a spanner and wearing your brother’s toy hard hat to show you know what you’re doing!

Tech Savvy

In the modern workforce, being au fait with all the latest tech is more important than ever. Show you can use a smartphone, and if you’re feeling extra technical you can even use that front facing camera… It’s at the top right

Model employee

Research shows that employers are much more likely to hire an attractive candidate than not. It might not be fair, but when you look like this, who cares?

Get in their head

Ever heard of Phrenology? Some think you can tell a lot about a person based on the size and shape of your skull. Shave that head, snap that head, impress Franz Joseph Gall and George Combe.

  • 2014 – 14,681

Automotive Industries Biggest Influencers

If you love keeping up with the automotive industry but have no idea who the industry influencers are then look no further. We’ve compiled a list of who we think are the top influencers in the UK. Those listed range from top industry bloggers, YouTube stars and automobile customisers to the stars.

All of the following are well worth a follow:

Chris Harris – @harrismonkey | 85k followers

Harris is one of the most influential motoring journalists in the world right now. He’s just left Pistonheads to focus on other ventures such as focusing on his much loved videos like this one.  You will not regret following this man, even if it’s just to see what cars he’s currently driving.

Tim (Shmee) – @shmee150 | 11.5k followers

Known by his followers as Shmee, this gentleman has made his money through YouTube and has over 300,000 subscribers to his channel. He’s pretty on it when it comes to social media so well worth a follow on his Instagram as well as his Twitter. He averages 100K+ views on his videos and covers pretty much every supercar launch in the world.

Pistonheads – @pistonheads | 64k followers

One of the UK’s largest classifieds site. They run, in our opinion, the best blog in the country and have some great features such as “£100k garage” (worth checking out). Worth a follow, even if it’s just to see the latest classifieds they put out on Twitter (usually the more interesting ones such as this Lamborghini LM002).

Yianni Charalambous – @yiannimize | 46.2k followers

The UK has had an influx in car customisation as of late. Especially within the high-end car market, take a trip down to London if you don’t believe me. Yiannimize are one of the big players in this market and have customised some of the most exotic and exclusive cars in the world. Plus, they’ve just launched their own app which allows users to customise their own cars straight from their smartphone. Did we mention his customers include One Direction, Dynamo Magician amongst others. Well worth a follow.

Tax The Rich – @taxtherich100 | 3k followers

Not entirely why these guys don’t have more Twitter followers than they already do. Their Twitter description reads ‘Bringing you videos of Supercars in the most unlikely manner’, in short these guys get given expensive supercars and drive them in ways you’ve never seen before. Think ‘Ferrari Enzo’ driving down a single track dirt road at 100mph, or Rolls Royce Wraith powersliding across someones garden.

Don’t need to say much about this fellow. He’s the PR manager for McLaren Automotive which means…inside scoop at McLaren HQ and who doesn’t want that appearing in their Twitter timeline? Expect plenty of videos, photos and articles right from the horses mouth.

Another YouTuber but this time it’s the man behind the channel ‘Epic Car Videos’. This guy certainly knows how to play into the palms of YouTube users, quick example; ‘22 Year old Girl Buys a Lamborghini Gallardo’, this video has managed to secure a cool 7.5 million views, obviously the kind of thing that gets viewers hearts racing!

Vehicle Technician Role in South Germany

Our friends over at M&E Global Resources Ltd have listed an opportunity on InAutomotive that is worthy of a blog in its own right.

The roles they’re advertising are not those of your average vehicle mechanics/ technicians but ones that require you to live and work out in army camps in Europe, the US and the Middle East.

A representative from M&E Global Resources pointed out that this is a perfect opportunity for vehicle mechanics to get into defence contracting; an industry that once in, you’re able to make a real name for yourself opening up lots of opportunities for yourself across Europe and beyond.
